Evangelos I. Giamarellos-Bourboulis, PhD, MD

Evangelos Giamarellos-Bourboulis graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens in June 1994 and received his PhD in February 1998.

He is a physician specialized in Infectious Diseases Immunology at Radboud University in the Netherlands. He is in charge of the Research Laboratory of Infectious Diseases Immunology and of the Regular Outpatient Clinic of Infectious Diseases Immunology of the Department of Internal Pathology at the University General Hospital of ATTICA.

Since 2006 he is the coordinator of the Greek Sepsis Study Group (www.sepsis.gr) together with Professor Ch. Gogos. In 2012 and 2013 he was a Visiting Professor of Intensive Care at the Medical School of the University of Jena, Germany.

Since July 2018 he is a Full Professor of Internal Pathology- Infectious Diseases at the Department of Internal Pathology of the University General Hospital of ATTICA.

His main research interests focus on the pathogenesis and immunotherapy of sepsis and the pathobiology and immunotherapy of suppurative hidradenitis. For his research work he was honored in 2009 with the Young Investigator Research Award by the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases.

He has 364 publications in foreign language medical journals with 15,110 references and index-h 63. He has received 37 awards for his work in domestic conferences and 11 awards in foreign conferences. He is President of the European Shock Society and the European Sepsis Alliance.
